Abseiling

Aside from a surge of adrenaline, abseiling can be a great test in personal confidence and trust of others.

Abseiling in Derbyshire

In the Peak District we use a number of ideal locations and structures which will not upset the needs of rock climbers. We are also available to facilitate sponsored abseils within inner city environments for the purpose of charity fund raising. Abseiling can make a thrilling finale to your outdoor course or adventurous programme leaving strong and lasting memories of personal accomplishment.

Abseil with Acclimbatize

Abseiling, also known as rappelling, is a controlled method of descending a steep rock face or vertical surface using a rope. The process involves using a harness, a belay or descender device, gloves, and a sturdy rope anchored securely at the top of the descent. The person abseiling controls their speed by manipulating the rope through the descender device, allowing for a safe and gradual descent.

Proper technique and safety precautions are essential when abseiling. Helmets are typically worn to protect against falling debris or accidental impacts against the rock face. Abseiling can be both an exciting and practical skill, offering access to areas that might otherwise be unreachable and providing a thrilling way to experience natural landscapes.

An exhilarating experience - well worth trying. Everyone really enjoyed our morning of abseiling in a beautiful area of the Peak District. Sam was very professional and everyone felt safe in his hands. We had multiple goes of abseiling along with scrambling up the rock faces. What a great day out we had, thanks Sam.

Rock Climbing Trip September 2025 This was such an excellent experience! Our tour guides, Chris, Daljeet, Clara, and Andy P. were very encouraging and funny. They lightened the mood with jokes, but pushed us and showed us the ropes (pun intended) as well. The climbs themselves were tricky but manageable, and it's really more about getting the experience than making it to the top. They may have inspired a future in rock climbing!

Howling winds no deterrent to climbing Had 2 days with these guys well worth it. Despite torrential rain and howling winds they kept us busy climbing, abseiling caving and gorge walking.

Excellent, knowledgable, friendly climbing guide Booked a solo rock climbing day and had an ideal experience. Can’t praise my guide, Chas, enough. I am an intermediate climber traveling from the US. I didn’t want to travel with gear nor feel overwhelmed by climbing in an unfamiliar area. So booking a guide made sense. My guide, Chas, was literally the most knowledgeable outdoor climber I have ever met. In addition to belaying me on a ton of routes, he was happy to share his deep experience with setting ropes, trad climbing, knots, climbing techniques, etc. Despite being probably 30 years older than me, I’m sure Chas is a better climber. This guy is a legend. I highly recommend!

A great experience in some beautiful settings! What an absolutely wonderful experience! I felt skeptical booking this for my family of 4 (2 daughters aged 9 and 5) as I felt uncertain as to whether the team could cater to all ages. However, the team and experience surpassed all of my expectations. Every team member we came across was so lovely and friendly and our trip leader, Matt, was outstanding - he showed such patience and kindness when my daughter was nervous with the abseiling part of the event. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience from start to finish (we did half a day of rock climbing and canoeing) and both myself and my husband felt it was worth every penny - a great experience in some beautiful settings.

Brilliant first ever climb and abseiling! We went scrambling, rock climbing and abseiling with Andy. Four children and two adults. It was amazing! The company do everything right. Communication was brilliant and they asked what we wanted out of the experience. Andy had so much knowledge and our experience was fantastic. I highly recommend this company. Fully supportive, great instructions felt safe and able to enjoy the whole afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

All sessions will begin with a safety briefing and a check to ensure any long hair or garment cord is tucked away. Depending on the time available we may set up a ground based practice. We do this so participants can feel the mechanics of abseiling in a safe area. Additional benefits of this are ensuring body position is correct and the principles of starting and stopping are 'engrained' For younger ones we may use a gently angled slab for thrill seekers we may use free hanging abseils. A typical session lasts around 3 hours.

We prefer not to have any more than 20 at any location - at the same time. Multiple locations can be used for greater numbers. That said .. Abseiling combines really well with many other activities including climbing, caving, orienteering, problem solving tasks, zip lining and hiking. On sponsored abseils for example - we set time windows for groups of 10 or 20 participants - and at the next allocated time another 10 or 20 will participate.

No fitness level is required - we capabilities to work with disabled people - specialised harnesses and accessible locations.

We travel to most major cities for Sponsored Abseil events.
