Working with Physical Diversity.
Yesterday we had over 20 staff attend skills training themed as ENABLING.
The techniques being taught and refreshed were aimed at improving our work with people with disabilities and younger children who might otherwise be intimidated or put off by situations.
Staff turning up in such large numbers is a testament to their commitment and dedication, to what we do …
Or is it because of the standard of training we supply 😆😉
Staff Training Week - Day 1
Trebuchet & Axe Throwing.
We introduced a couple of new activities last year to expand our ‘outreach / onsite’ offer.
We hope the Trebuchet will become a popular addition with our groups, now that more staff have become familiar with operating it.
For schools, when combined with archery and bushcraft the curriculum can be brought to life 🛡️🏹
TESTING CONDITIONS 🥶
A mention in despatches this week to Caterham CCF (military cadets), the CCF staff - and to our own instructor team for working in such challenging weather conditions.
Heavy rain, freezing temperatures, hailstorms, snow and just about everything else the weather could throw at us !
Many groups would have buckled or gone indoors under such conditions.
The cadets and staff supported one another, and continued with a positive attitude over 4 days.
Back at the stores we have record breaking amounts of minging kit!!

The best learning is driven by curiosity.
We began working with this lad about 18 months ago.
His Local Education Authority have decided to invest in an activity he is interested in, and engaged with.
We might not be able to give academic grades but we can help with ethical responsibility, independent thinking and social awareness.
This is exactly what our Youth Services used to do before they defunded them.

Traditional school settings don’t work for everyone, all of the time.
This young person`s local educational authority recognized the potential and have invested in a different pathway.
There’s a growing demand for rope access workers, a field pioneered by climbers and cavers.
Yesterday, this talented individual made a significant step forward by rigging their first deep cave.
From map interpretation, equipment packing to safe descent and ascent to the surface.

Paul was the obvious choice from our talent pool for this one ..

The result reflects the hard work, focus, and commitment Graham put into preparing.

60 girls !! Many firsts for some of them. First time away from home. First time in the Peak District. First time at @yhaofficial . First time caving. First time abseiling. Another super successful weekend of boundary busting with the Muslim Youth Alliance 👍👍
For a company often tasked to facilitate Team Building experiences, we had better be sure to get our own practice right! The natural glue for us are the adventurous activities which brought us together, the camaraderie and culture has been built in the workplace. Would our little community have such a strong sense of purpose and togetherness by selling Widgets??
Another day delivering life lessons for our learners in alternative provision. Today was about taking positive risks. A positive risk is something that will promote personal growth by expanding comfort zones and building up resilience in order to cope with the day to day difficulties … they used to call it “Character Building” when I was a lad!!
