Stoney Middleton Adventure Day

Stoney Middleton is one of the Peak District’s most iconic limestone valleys, famous for its climbing and caving heritage.

The Situation

This thrilling session combines a series of short caves, travel across exposed ledges protected by fixed ropes, abseiling and exploration of a more extensive cave system.
This adventure is a combination of above and below ground.

After learning the essential ropework and safety techniques, you will journey through a series of caves high on the dramatic limestone cliffs overlooking the village of Stoney Middleton. There is the opportunity to abseil down a cliff face or be lowered into the entrance of a natural cave, which extends under the hillside.

Guided by instructors, you’ll then explore a fascinating network of caverns, tunnels, and passageways, discovering underground formations and learning about the geology and history that shaped this unique environment.

This activity blends vertical adventure and exploration — challenging your confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while immersing you in one of the Peak District’s most atmospheric settings. Every session is tailored to suit the experience and ability of your group, ensuring a safe, supportive, and unforgettable adventure for all participants.

Ideal for schools, youth groups, families, and corporate teams, the Roped-Up sections of cave and the abseiling at Stoney Middleton captures the very essence of the authentic outdoor experience.
